Community Programs

The Coachella Valley Housing Coalition has committed itself to assisting its families in becoming active participants in the community. CVHC has partnered with the County of Riverside, local unified school districts and other non-profits to develop diverse, comprehensive community service programs. These programs have proven to develop family self-sufficiency and empowerment in a healthy, positive and supportive community environment.

 

 

After-School Kids Clubs

CVHC has developed ten After-School Kids Clubs to help school-age residents with their homework, reading and social enrichment. The Clubs provide youth with a safe, supportive environment after-school when most parents are working. The Kids Clubs are located at:

  • Coyote Run Apartments in Palm Springs
  • Fuente de Paz Apartments in Coachella
  • Las Casas I Apartments in Coachella
    (also serves children from Las Casas II & III Apartment complexes)
  • Paseo de los Heroes in Mecca
    (serves children from Paseo de los Heroes Mobile Home Park & Chapultepec Apartments)
  • Paseo de los Heroes II in Mecca
  • Rosa Gardens Apartments in Palm Springs
  • Wolff Waters Apartments in La Quinta
  • Villa Hermosa Apartments in Indio

All after school Kids Clubs, with the exception of Casitas del Valle and Villa Hermosa are operated by YMCA of the Desert and is open Monday-Friday from 3.00-6:00PM. Casitas del Valle is operated by Boys and Girls Club of Greater Redlands and open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3:00-6:00 PM.

Child Development Centers

CVHC has built eight Child Development Centers to accommodate children ages 2 to 5 years. The centers provide children with comprehensive childcare in a nurturing, educational environment, and give parents peace of mind while at work. The Child Development Centers are located at:

Fred Young Labor Camp in Indio

  • Full-day child care

Las Casas II Apartments in Coachella

  • Full-day child care
  • Operated by Coachella Valley Unified School District.

Nueva Vista Apartments in Mecca

  • Full-day child care
  • Half-day child care

Paseo de los Heroes Mobile Home Park in Mecca

  • Full-day Migrant Head Start Program
  • Operated by Riverside County Office of Education

Tlaquepaque Apartments in Coachella

Computer Technology Centers and Education

CVHC has developed nineteen Computer Technology Centers at its rental complexes. The centers are utilized five days a week during the After-School Kids Clubs on site, and twice a week for open computer hours and bilingual computer classes.

Art, Culture & Recreation

CVHC provides its residents with a variety of educational and fun programs designed to serve the needs of residents of all ages. These include:

Mariachi Band Classes

Local area youth ages 7-18 perform at area cultural events and learn to play traditional Mariachi instruments such as trumpets, violins, guitars and guitarrons. The group meets twice a week at Coachella Community Homes in Coachella.

 

Summer Youth Tennis Camp

Youth ages 6-17 learn to play tennis during this four week summer camp at the Indian Wells Tennis Gardens. The camp allows low-income youth to experience a sport traditionally linked to a more affluent community. The tennis courts, racquets and instructors’ time are provided by the Indian Wells Tennis Gardens.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ballet Folklorico Classes

Local area youth ages 7-18 perform at area cultural events and learn to dance traditional Ballet Folklorico.

The group meets twice a week at:

  • Arroyo de Paz Apartments in Desert Hot Springs

 

 

ESL/Citizenship Classes

CVHC offers ESL/Citizenship classes at Paseo de los Heroes Mobile Home Park in Mecca. The instructors utilize both computer-based and manual-based curriculum to teach residents the English knowledge they will need to take the United States Citizenship test and become Naturalized Citizens. Participants also learn conversational Spanish invaluable for day to day conversations. CVHC also partners with the Palm Springs Adult School at Coyote Run in Palm Springs to offer ESL classes.

 

 

Community Gardens

CVHC has developed Community Gardens at six of its rental complexes. Residents have the opportunity to grow their own fruits, vegetables, trees and flowers. The Community Gardens are located at:
