Coachella Valley Housing Coalition Celebrates 35 Years of providing the American Dream to many families in the Coachella Valley and Beyond!
The Coachella Valley Housing Coalition (CVHC), a non-profit developer of affordable housing, will celebrate 35 years of providing the American Dream to hundreds of residents throughout Riverside and Imperial Counties. The celebration will take place this Friday, October 27 in the beautiful Bellatrix Restaurant at the Classic Club located at 75-200 Classic Club Blvd. in Palm Desert. Many of its supporters, past board members, and community partners will be in attendance including local dignitaries and elected officials.
“The vision of a handful of local activists and the expert leadership of founding Executive Director John F. Mealey has created a respected, experienced and successful regional affordable housing developer. We have much to be proud of,” said Julie Bornstein, CVHC’s Executive Director.
“Thanks to the vision of past and present Board members, and the dedicated CVHC staff members, low-income households are able to live the American Dream of home ownership and enjoy a comfortable and safe living environment”, added Bob Wright, Board President.
Since its founding in 1982, the Coachella Valley Housing Coalition has built 35 multi-family communities with over 3000 units built. Also, CVHC has facilitated the construction of over 1700 single family homes through its Mutual Assistance (Self-Help) Program allowing families to become both builders AND homeowners.
Aside from constructing homes, CVHS has continued providing a broad range of resident services including after school Kids Clubs, English as a Second Language, computer technology, gardening skills, health and nutrition, STEM Robotics, Tennis Camp, financial literacy, Mariachi Music Instruction, cultural dance instruction, college scholarships, and day care services, to name a few. These programs help eliminate barriers to success and link them to their community in ways they could never find possible without them.
