WHO WE SERVE
CVHC SERVES LOW-INCOME INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES THROUGH ITS MANY HOUSING PROGRAMS
In its single-family division, CVHC serves families who have a strong motivation to become homeowners but are unable to purchase housing on the open market. CVHC, through its rental housing, serves families and individuals looking for housing as a stepping stone to homeownership, and individuals with special needs who are not accommodated by the private market. Through its many community services programs, CVHC provides much-needed services for children and adults.
HOUSING BUILT
CV Housing has built more than 4,000 multi and single-family residences, making it the largest developer of low-income housing in Riverside County and one of the largest residential developers of any kind in the Coachella Valley.
Nearly 2,853 rental units in 39 developments, including a 178-bed migrant farm worker community, have been completed or acquired.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
To date, Coachella Valley Housing Coalition (CVHC) has provided safe, affordable housing for thousands of low-income families, partnering with more than 1,900 families in the construction and purchase of affordable single family Self-Help homes in Coachella, Indio, Blythe, North Shore, Mecca, Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Palm Desert, Desert Hot Springs, Brawley, Salton City and La Quinta. In addition, CVHC has 50 contractor-built homes and 90 “rehabilitated” homes.
CVHC has single-family Self-Help subdivisions currently in construction in Mecca, and Desert Hot Springs.
Beyond that we are in the development phase for more than 500 homes in Mecca, Salton City, North Shore, Brawley and Desert Hot Springs.
Our affordable multi-family housing developments consist of more than 2,853 units in 39 developments – all for low and very low-income working families and individuals.
Some of the developments include the State’s only apartment complex for retired farmworkers and the region’s only migrant farmworker complex. We have 120 units for individuals with developmental and physical disabilities, and individuals living with HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses. One multi-family development of 34 units is in construction in Desert Hot Springs and more than 400 units are in pre-development.
CVHC incorporated the first full-service medical facility in Mecca in 1995 when building Nueva Vista Apartments. CVHC Community Services department, which spearheads programs at all of our multi-family developments, has created five After-School Kids Clubs to help school-age residents with their homework, reading and social enrichment. The Clubs provide a supportive environment during after school hours when most parents are still working.
We have built eight Child Development Centers to accommodate children ages two to five years. The centers provide comprehensive childcare in a nurturing, educational environment and give parents piece of mind while they are at work. We have seven computer training centers, bilingual computer classes that offer English as a Second Language courses and five of our complexes have community gardens in which residents may grow their own fruits, vegetables, trees and flowers. Through our Community Services department, we also offer residents discount swim passes at local public pools, art, Mariachi and Ballet Folklorico lessons and a Summer Youth Tennis Camp at Indian Wells Tennis Gardens.
