CVHC’s newest housing development in Desert Hot SpringsIndio, CA (June 14, 2013) – Coachella Valley Housing Coalition’s newest development, Brisas de Paz Apartments in Desert Hot Springs, CA, has received an Award of Merit in the 50th-annual Gold Nugget Awards for “Best Affordable Project under 30 du/acre.”

The Gold Nugget Awards are presented at the Pacific Coast Builders Conference (PCBC) by Pacific Coast Builders and Builder magazine, who bring together the housing industry’s leading builders, developers, architects, investors, product manufacturers and advisers for a two-day conference, product display, and business exchange. These awards honor creative achievements in architectural design and land use planning for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. This year they were held at the San Diego Convention Center on June 5.

“CVHC’s dedication is to bringing together the best team possible – architects, builders, engineers – to produce high quality housing our hard-working families are proud to live in,” responds John Mealey, Executive Director of Coachella Valley Housing Coalition. “Brisas de Paz demonstrates a dedication to achieving the highest quality possible. The Gold Nugget award is much deserved, as it recognizes the team’s hard work and success.”

Brisas de Paz Apartments is a 62 unit affordable housing community constructed on 4.77 acres. The community includes 11 one-bedroom units, 26 two-bedroom units, and 25 three-bedroom units including a managers unit. The units at Brisas de Paz are meant to accommodate larger families – this is just a small part of the architectural achievements this property accomplishes.

Sun Country Builders and Architect John Sheehan of Studio E Architects, worked hand in hand with CVHC throughout the planning and development of Brisas de Paz —from the color palette to making sure opening placements and shading would reduce the impact of the desert’s summer heat. Other features of the apartment community include a community room, computer learning center, two playgrounds, two laundry facilities, a swimming pool, barbeque areas, and a community kitchen.
