2015 In Accomplishments, Inland Empire U.S.VETS – Inland Empire Hits the Ground Running On Nov. 9, U.S.VETS celebrated a groundbreaking at March Veterans Village—a labor of love between U.S.VETS, Coachella Valley Housing Coalition and the March Joint Powers Authority—which will usher in decent, safe, permanent affordable housing for previously homeless veterans and veterans and their families. Once completed, the Village will also provide 60 veterans with transitional housing. March JPA Executive Director Lori Stone told local media: “This will fit in well with the rest of March Air Reserve Base. It’s a good location for it, because Riverside County has one of the largest veteran populations in the United States.” Currently, Riverside County ranks in the top 10 nationally in number of homeless veterans, and is host to 15,000 veterans currently at-risk of falling into homelessness, according to studies conduction by the Riverside County Housing Authority. The collaborative efforts of these three organizations will ensure there is help available it is needed the most. Once construction is completed—projected to be in spring of 2016—March Veterans Village will nearly double U.S.VETS’ capacity to provide permanent supportive housing to veterans in the Inland Empire. The property design is California mid-century modern, with a nod to the site’s aviation past, and will have 138-units built into one four-story building and one three-story building. The unit mix will consist of 116 efficiency units, 6 onebedroom units and 16 two-bedroom units. The property also will feature a 13,000-squarefoot Community Center complete with a large community room, case manager’s offices and the property manager’s office. This permanent housing piece is designed to ensure veterans, including those with families, avoid and recover from homelessness.
